02 Where people start
First rig
Direct drive at the bottom of the market: base, wheel and pedals in one box, and a frame to bolt them to. A gear-driven wheel at this price is a false economy.
First direct drive
12 Nm — the bottom of the range the guides call the sweet spot — with a GT wheel, load-cell pedals and a cockpit rather than a desk stand.
Load cell brakes
16 Nm and the two-pedal load cell the step is named for, on a cockpit frame. The brake is the upgrade every guide puts first.
Aluminium profile
21 Nm on a profile frame stiff enough to take it. The point at which the rig stops flexing and starts telling you things.
